2018 First Aid Training + Refresher Courses

CYC Waihola is running a First-Aid Course.

Both the full and refresher courses will have an online/app component to be completed at home in your own time followed by 4.5 hours of in class training where you will be given hands on opportunities to practice CPR and dealing with choking, plus covering other essential first aid knowledge.

The training is open to anyone – you don’t need to be a CYC volunteer
Date: Saturday the 24th  November 2018
Price: If you are a director in 2019: FREE

If you are signed up to be a 2019 leader: FREE

All others $140

Scenario Training For those that are keen we have the option of running an addition to the course that will run you through scenario training, this will be at no extra cost.Giving you additional skills in: management of an emergency, dealing with possible scenarios like burns or breaks, all in a safe and educational environment.

2016 First Aid Refresher and Training Course

CYC Waihola is running a one-day Practical First-Aid Course through the Red Cross. We have been able to gain some very good training rates so are able to offer the following courses at well below the usual cost:

  • Practical First Aid Full Course (Unit Standards 6401 and 6402) – 4 hours (9am – 1pm) – $140 each
  • Practical First Aid Refresher (Unit Standards 6401 and 6402) – 4 hours (9am – 1pm) – $110 each

This course is the equivalent of Workplace First Aid and is valid for two years.

Both courses will run on Saturday 26th November 2016 from 9.00am through to 1.00pm at the Clark House.
The training is open to anyone – they don’t need to be a CYC volunteer – we must reach 10 people in each course to make the pricing work so please register your name by emailing kidscamps@cycwaihola.org.nz .
The instructors will be focusing on providing core first aid scenarios but may use applications that CYC Leaders will encounter within a kids camp ministry. It is essential we have more first aid qualified leaders within our camps.

To make it cheaper we are making it a shared lunch so bring something to share – still talk to us if this is too much and we might be able to sweeten the deal for you if you are a poor lonely student.

At the end of the day you have a current First Aid Certificate that is valid for 2 years. You will come away with NZQA Unit Standards 6401 and 6402

2016 Leadership Winter Training


Interested in being a leader at CYC Camps??
– then this is the camp for you!!!!!

CYC Waihola is keen as mustard for our camps to be filled with passionate leaders with a real desire to reach young people for God.

Whether you are a natural born leader or just like to work away in the background we would love to have you attend our camp.

The weekend is SUPER CHEAP – only $30 and you can get a CYC t-shirt for 50% off!!!

(We do however do welcome extra donations to cover food and costs).

This is aimed and based around being a cabin leader at our kids camps in Waihola but in full of useful tips and information for any young person looking or already serving in a leadership role.

If you have attended the leadership camp before then we welcome you to come along and share your experiences and join in the fellowship with future leaders.

All leaders must be 15 years or older to attend this camp and it is required for all those wishing to be leaders at CYC camps.

2016 Directors Training Day: Queens Birthday Weekend & 10th September 2016 from 9am – 4pm

This training is for all prospective future directors to go over the camping policy document.

We plan to discuss and go through the policies and procedures of running a camp at CYC.

The day will also be a ideas forum between directors on solving issues, gathering good ideas and discussing upcoming camps.

It is hoped that we can have some experienced previous directors from camps there also.

Please make every effort to ensure you are able to attend this training day if you want to be a director at CYC in the future.

2014 Leaders Winter Tramp

The winter leaders tramp is now an annual classic.

In the past we have had a quiet weekend jaunt up the Routeburn valley to the Routeburn Falls Hut for the night. We may explore other options this year if people are keen.

All leaders and volunteer staff are welcome to attend this tramp. Anyone really keen for some weekend of fellowship with some ‘neat people’ are also welcome to attend this tramp.

 

It is a winter tramp so expect the following from the weekend:

– easy going track

– minus 0 degrees temperatures and maybe snow

– warm fellowship and good food

Those interested will need to contact Tim at the CYC office to talk about the tramp.

Some limited transport may be available from Waihola to the tramp and home again.

 

Your gear will need to include:

– Good boots with ankle support

– Very warm clothing (including two sets of thermals)(last time we did this tramp there was a -5 degree night in the hut)

– Very warm sleeping bag (again it is very cold)

– Wet weather gear (last time it snowed)

– Your own food (although dehydrated food is available for purchase from CYC at our cost price)

We will learn about (amongst other things):
– Evangelism training
– How to give your testimony
– Leadership within a camp environment
– practical leadership
– Rules at Camp

And learn how to run camp activities such as:
– flying fox
– go carts
– archery
– air rifles
– kayaking 

This is aimed and based around being a cabin leader at our kids camps in Waihola but in full of useful tips and information for any young person looking or already serving in a leadership role.

If you have attended the leadership camp before then we welcome you to come along and share your experiences and join in the fellowship with future leaders.

2015 Leadership Summer Training – Cancelled

Unfortunately we have made the decision to cancel the leadership training camp next week.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Our winter training event almost always runs – next year this is Friday 17th – Sunday 19th June 2016 and Lord willing will run as usual. Our summer training camp was a new event in our calendar and obviously there is not the demand for it at this time.
