VOLUNTEERS

Camp Roles

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” – Matthew 9:37-38

CYC Waihola relies on volunteers to make camp possible, and we would love you to be involved. Whether experienced or simply willing to serve, you can make a real difference in the lives of campers. As an OSCAR-approved childcare service, a small amount of paperwork and training is required before camp. We have kept this simple, and it only needs to be completed once every three years.

Cabin Leader (First Time)

If you are 16 or over, you can apply to be a cabin leader. A Cabin Leader cares for and supervises a small group of campers, building positive relationships and helping create a safe, fun, and supportive camp experience. You will need to complete both the Ministry Staff Form (which includes a Police Vet) and our Leaders Training.

Cabin Leader (Returning)

If you are returning to CYC Waihola as a leader (who has previously completed the Ministry Staff Application and Full Leaders Training), you’ll need to complete a Details Update and Refresher Training every 2 years.

Cook / Kitchen Helper

A Cook or Kitchen Helper helps prepare and serve meals for camp, and whether you’re experienced or just willing to help, we will support you in the role. We work alongside you to set the ideal menu for camp, so you can pick meals you’re confident making.

Day Helper / Camp Parent / Camp Nurse

We need volunteers of all ages beyond Cabin Leaders, and our camps greatly benefit from Camp Parents, Day Helpers, and Camp Nurses who support the programme, care for campers’ wellbeing, and help ensure camp runs smoothly and safely.

Camp Director / Programme Director

A Camp Director works closely with CYC staff to develop the camp theme, plan the timetable and activities, and recruit volunteers to bring camp to life, and may either lead the camp throughout the week or hand over to a Program Director to oversee the day-to-day running of the programme.

Reporting Forms

Your report matters, whether it’s an accident, behavioural concern, or safety issue, completing a form helps us ensure a safer, more caring environment for everyone.

Fill the appropriate form and email it to kidscamps@cycwaihola.org.nz
